According to the Potential Project, Mindfulness = managing attention. In our world of connectedness, I for one am very aware of the distractions facing learners in the classroom and in their workday.
Harvard Business School discovered that multitasking hinders creativity and innovation. Other studies have shown that multitasking has a negative impact on job fulfillment and negatively impacts memory, health and personal relationships. In his book, One Second Ahead, Rasmus Hougaard promotes the idea that there are only 2 rules to reducing your distractedness. Rule #1 is to FOCUS on what you CHOOSE. Rule # 2 is to CHOOSE your distractions MINDFULLY.
I for one have already started to see the pattern of distractions I suffer from and I am working on CHOOSING my focus and my distractions to lessen the frenetic pace of my work day and to enhance my effectiveness. Mindfulness supports the realization of your potential as a learner, as a performer and in everyday life. I am committed to integrating mindfulness into Innovative Facilitation’s leadership development programs – one conversation at a time.
